FAQ
Why is protein important? Who needs protein?
Protein is a vital nutrient for your health and optimal body functions. In other words: the human body would not function without the supply of essential protein building blocks (essential amino acids) through food intake.
You can find out which functions proteins exactly have and many more information regarding protein here.
Is a high protein intake harmful?
Currently there is no upper limit for daily protein intake, due to insufficient data, according to the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA). However, a high protein intake of 1.7g of protein/kg bodyweight per day is classed as uncritical and safe for healthy adults, according to EFSA.
What is the difference between whey, casein and soy protein?
Whey protein as well as casein protein are protein fractions of milk. Casein, with approximately 80%, is the main component of cow’s milk protein. It functions as a “slow absorbing protein source”. In contrast, whey protein counts to the “fast absorbing protein sources”. This means the body can absorb it faster and metabolise it quicker.
A high-quality plant based alternative is soy protein, which is isolated from soy beans.
Can Premier Protein products be consumed after the best before date (bbd)?
The best before date is the date up until a food or product, when stored appropriately, can be consumed without significant change in flavour or quality or adverse health risks. Because it is a best before date and not an expiry date it is possible that the product could still be suitable for consumption after the stated date. However, as manufacturers we cannot guarantee the quality of our products if consumed after the best before date. The expiration of the best before date cannot only influence the taste, appearance and microbial spoilage of a food, but also its efficacy.
How can I see if an allergen (e.g. lactose, gluten) is present, which I should avoid due to an intolerance or allergy?
We as a company are legally obliged (according to Food Information Regulation) to label and (visually) highlight the most common allergens in the ingredients list of a product, should they be contained as an ingredient. In addition, we voluntarily declare potential traces of allergens. Therefore, a quick glance at the ingredients list of a product can show if an allergen could be contained. The ingredients list is also found on our website under the respective products. If you have any further questions on the topic of allergens do not hesitate to contact us: nutritionteam@premier-protein.com.
